Gold, tola and Zakat
In Pakistan gold is usually bought and sold by tola, while rates are often quoted per gram. One tola equals 11.6638 grams, so a 5 tola set weighs about 58.32 grams. If your jeweller quotes a tola rate, divide it by 11.6638 to get the per-gram figure this calculator needs.
Zakat on gold is due at 2.5% of its value once your total wealth is above the nisab and has been held for a full lunar year. The nisab for gold is commonly given as 7.5 tola, or 52.5 tola if measured against silver. Many scholars suggest using the silver nisab as it is the lower threshold.
